Matheson on Health Reform

Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT) spoke to Fox News about health system reform (see the video here).

Congressman Matheson wants to have his political cake and eat it too. He wants to be in favor of health system reform, but he prefers not to specify how, except that he is against socialism. He says that we need higher quality and lower costs but offers no specifics. He opposes the current proposals in Washington DC. He wants a market system to work.

Let's recognize this list of statements for what it is: ideological nonsense. Of course, it is correct to state that we have opportunities for cost savings in our health system. But the politically difficult thing is to name the waste that should be eliminated and then work to see that it happens.

Despite the frequent and loud howling about 'socialized medicine', that is an ideological sideshow, which Matheson is willing to exploit. Let's not be sidetracked here in Utah. The federal health reform effort is failing. Let's get to work here.
